The Cambridge Technical is a modular course. Students present their work in several ways including practical demonstrations, presentations and role play. It provides individuals with a hands-on approach to their learning of sport which provides direct transferable skills to university and the working environment. Cambridge Technical provides a practical, real-world approach to learning without sacrificing any of the essential subject theories. This is a fantastic opportunity to study sports and explore the in-depth aspects of how we can improve performance from an elite-level perspective. The course is a mix of theory and practical performance and to be most successful you should currently be participating at a good level for a school or local sports club in any sport. Your knowledge from this sport will be directly applied to your studies and you will be expected to maintain a high level of sporting performance as part of the qualification. It combines scientific and vocational units that will help you reach your full performance potential and prepare you for the workplace or university.
Students must achieve at least a Merit at level 2 or above in Cambridge National Sports Studies and a grade 5 in Maths, English, and Science is also desirable. Students must participate in a recognized sporting club every week and be involved in regular competitions.
There are two written exam papers: Paper 1: Body Systems and the Effects of Physical Activity 90 mins 70 marks Paper 2: Sports Organisations and Development 60mins 60 marks The three practical and written NEA units are internally assessed: • Sports Coaching and Leadership • Sport and Exercise Psychology • Organisation of Sports Events
