You should have an interest in the role of Law in today's society, including the rights and responsibilities individuals have. You should be interested in learning about how legal rules apply to real life situations. You will study the following topics: The nature of law, legal issues, and the English legal system; The role law plays in society; Parliamentary law making; Law reforms; How the legal system is organised including the civil and criminal courts; Criminal law, including negligence and occupiers' liability; Human rights law, including the right to life. By the end of the course you should be able to apply techniques of legal method and reasoning in order to offer answers to problem, based on legal principles, legislation and case law. You should also be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate persuasive legal arguments by referencing the appropriate legal authorities.
Grade 5 in English and an average point score of 4.
Assessment is 100% exam based. You will sit three papers at the end of the two year course. Papers will include a mixture of multiple choice, short answers and extended response essay questions.
