Course summary

Further Mathematics is an A-Level qualification which both broadens and deepens the mathematics covered in AS/A Level Mathematics. It must be studied alongside A Level Mathematics. Students will be able to study AS Level Further Mathematics over two years and will take a combination of one Pure Mathematics unit and two application units. Further Mathematics introduces new topics such as matrices and complex numbers that are vital in many mathematics rich degrees. The study of Further Mathematics helps make the transition to such degrees far more straightforward. Students who are especially keen on Mathematics will really enjoy the full A-Level in Further Mathematics.

Entry requirements

- Only students gaining a grade A* in GCSE Mathematics would be considered suitable for studying Further Mathematics. - Students who have achieved at least six GCSE or equivalent passes (4-9) including English and Maths.

How you'll be assessed

Three examination papers lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes each in Year 12, comprising of three units (Further Pure 1, Decision 1 and Decision 2). Three examination papers lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes each in Year 13, comprising of three units (Further Pure 2, Mechanics 2 and Statistics 2).
