What is art, craft, and design? Art, craft, and design, as a combination of disciplines that define and promote visual literacy. As young children, we learn to interpret images long before we become fluent in the written word. Visual literacy enables us to communicate and comprehend successfully and meaningfully in an increasingly image-saturated world. At Biddenham we aim to inspire personal expression and cultural understanding and to promote creative and practical responses, as well as imaginative risk-taking. We look to provide solutions to our material, emotional, social, and virtual worlds through the work of our students. It is a unique subject with attributes that must guarantee its place, not only on the curriculum from early years through formal education settings but also within lifelong learning. We aim to inspire, challenge, and motivate every student, no matter what their level of ability, while supporting them in developing, creative and engaging outcomes; providing scope for innovation, and stimulating opportunities to develop and explore their interests in art and design; and allow for progression from key stage 3 whilst providing a strong foundation for further study at GCSE and A level as well as vocational pathways.
Achieved a grade 4 English Language and Math qualification and a minimum of three other Level 2 qualifications at grade 4 or above. Art, Graphics or Textiles GCSE at grade 4 or above. Students who have not studied Art for 12 months or more will need to complete a portfolio of tasks which would be independently assessed.
Component 1: Personal Investigation (60% of final marks). Component 2: Externally Set Assignment (preparatory period followed by 15 hours supervised time, 40% of final marks).
