Course summary

" A scientist in his laboratory is not a mere technician; he is also a child confronting natural phenomena that impress him as though they were fairytales! Marie Sklodowska Curie Students will develop practical skills in chemistry Learn about Atomic Structures, The Periodic Table, and Organic and Physical chemistry. Over the Two Year course students will study the following: Module 1 Development of practical skills in chemistry Module 2 Foundations in chemistry - Academic structure, calculations, bonding Module 3 Periodic table and Energy -Periodicity, group 2 and halogens, enthalpy calculations, equilibrium Module 4 Core Organic Chemistry - Alkanes, alkenes, haloalkanes, alcohols, mechanisms, analysis Module 5 Physical Chemistry and transition elements: Transition elements, rate, cells, entropy, acid-base chemistry. Module 6 Organic Chemistry and Analysis: Benzene, amides, analysis synthesis

Entry requirements

- A grade 6 in GCSE if single award Chemistry has been studied or at least a grade 7.6. if the double award has been studied. - At least a grade 5 in English (Language or Literature) and 4 in mathematics, or a grade 5 in mathematics and 4 in English (Language or Literature); - A minimum GCSE Best 8 Point Score of 35.

How you'll be assessed

Examinations are taken at the end of the course. Paper 1: Periodic Table elements and physical chemistry (37%) of the A Level Paper 2: Synthesis and Analytical techniques (37%) of the A Level Paper 3: Unified Chemistry (26%) of the A Level Practical endorsement in Chemistry (non-exam assessment)
