Performing Arts is a vocational qualification where students will study 4 units over two years, developing a variety of skills using a range of theatrical styles, such as Physical Theatre, Naturalism, Political Theatre, Theatre for Children, Commedia Dell’arte and Classical Theatre. It is a nationally recognized qualification by well-established drama schools and universities. The course is 50% examined by the exam board and 50% internally assessed. As part of the course, all students will take part in a bespoke work placement, in a variety of settings such as performance, workshop, reading, theatre in education, costume, props, and theatre administration. You will develop performance skills in a range of theatrical styles, using the methodology of a range of theatre and performance practitioners. You will reflect upon and evaluate your progress and performance at regular intervals. You will perform in scripted work and develop devising skills to create original material for a range of audiences. What will I Study in the course? In the first year, you will study 2 units: Unit 1: Investigating Practitioners’ Work Unit 2: Developing skills and techniques for live performance In the second year, you will study a further 2 units: Unit 3: Group performance workshop Unit 19: Acting styles
6 GCSEs between 9 to 4 (A*-C) for including 2 of English, Maths or Science. 2 should be at least grade 6 (B).
APPROXIMATELY 70% PRACTICAL AND 30% WRITTEN. The majority of your learning will take place in a purpose-built theatre and rehearsal studio where you will develop specific acting techniques and skills. You will learn through rehearsing, performing, and research. You will be assessed through a blend of coursework and externally set examination tasks from the board. You will reflect on your practical rehearsal and performance work. creating supporting logs/evaluations of the work you have produced. Assessed performance, coursework and exam.
