This course aims to gain an understanding of key topics and the knowledge and skills required in the academic study of psychology. This is done by looking at some of the main approaches in psychology – biological, cognitive, behavioral, psychodynamic, and humanistic. You will be expected to take an active part in all lessons to fully develop your understanding. You will learn about the origins of psychology and its emergence as a science. You will also learn about the structure and function of the nervous system and the role of hormones in human behavior. You will gain an understanding of the research methods and data-handling techniques used in psychology. You will also develop an understanding of ethical issues and carry out practical research activities. All units are assessed by written examination.
The standard entry requirement for the Hitchin Consortium is five Grade 9-4 GCSEs or equivalent, including English & Math at Grade 4 or above. 5-5 or above in Combined Science. 5 or above in Mathematics at GCSE. 5 or above in English Language or Literature at GCSE.
