Component 1- Devising (Internally assessed by teacher examiner) Students create and develop a devised piece from a stimulus (free choice for centre). They will be exploring rehearsal techniques, styles and genres of theatre in order to create unique, imaginative and engaging pieces of theatre. Once the students have created their original piece it is performed in front of an audience and assessed by a teacher examiner. A log is filled out during the process and is handed in at the end. The log needs to reflect on the creative process during the devising component. Component 2: Performance from Text: (Externally assessed by visiting examiner) Students will perform in two extracts from a theatre text where they will take on the roles and have to develop and sustain dynamic characters. The two key extracts include monologues, duologues and group performances. The students have to perform their rehearsed extracts to an external examiner. Component 3: Theatre Makers in the Process- (Written Examination) Component 3 is a practical exploration and study of one complete performance text from a choice of eight performance texts given by the examining board but chosen by the teacher in charge. Students must also see a live play and analyse the plays performance conditions. All practical work and analysis will be marked by means of a written examination (1 hour 30 minutes) at the end of the year.
