Course summary

Students will learn how to plan and monitor animal feeding as well as learn how to maintain animal health, welfare and accommodation. The course themes include planning and monitoring animal feeding, maintaining animal health, biology, welfare and accommodation, animal handling and grooming. There are lectures, talks from guest speakers, visits, practical sessions in the Animal Unit and work related experience. Students' work is assessed continually throughout the course. Students wishing to undertake this course are expected to be willing to work hard on the stable yard and be enthusiastic to learn about horse care. Physical activity, therefore, forms a large part of the course. You will be expected to be hardworking and ‘hands on’ in both the practical and academic aspects of the course.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 3 (old GCSE grade D) or above to include two from English, maths and Science, with at least a grade 2 (old GCSE grade E) in the remaining subject.
