Course summary

Studying biology shows us how all living forms are interconnected. As an A Level, this course will prepare you for taking your studies to the next level. You’ll find the skills you develop as a student with us are highly transferable and an excellent preparation for a wider range of courses you may study in the future. If you’re looking to study for a medical course at university, A Level Biology is usually demanded. We study a variety of topic areas including, biological molecules, cell structure and cell division, cell membranes, exchange and transport, protein synthesis, respiration, nervous system ecology and genetics.

Entry requirements

General College entry requirements plus; GCSE Biology grade 6. GCSE Combined Science and Maths: you must have a profile of 6/6/5 across this combination. GCSE Maths GCSE Maths grade 5 or above and GCSE English grade 4 or above. If you have taken other science qualifications, you will need to discuss this with us.

How you'll be assessed

The course consists of eight topic areas, assessed at the end of the two years by written examination. There are twelve required practicals, including field work, which will allow you to gain the Practical Endorsement certificate.
