Course summary

Drama and Theatre is an exciting option that combines the creation, practice and appreciation of live theatre. It gives students an opportunity to develop their creativity, confidence and communication skills through live performance, critical review, text analysis and focused research. There are regular theatre trips and in recent years boys have visited London to experience productions at the Globe Theatre and The National. In 2016 the A-level group went to see Hamlet at the RSC in Stratford. The department holds a Drama Club for Years 7 and 8 which is run by the A-level students and this leads into the annual junior productions which are staged at Christmas and directed entirely by the Sixth Form. A-level students stage a musical with Lancaster Girls' Grammar School at The Dukes Theatre, Lancaster. Auditions take place for acting and singing roles but there are also roles available in the band or for lighting, stage management and backstage work.
