This is a two-year programme that aims to give students a considered insight into the sport and active leisure industry, allowing them to further their knowledge and skills to progress into employment or higher education. Students will gain a qualification equivalent to the size of three A Levels. As part of this course you will also gain experience of delivering sport and physical activity sessions, taking part in mock interviews and developing a portfolio in order to prepare and gain a greater understanding of the requirements of working in the sport and active leisure industry. The method of learning is a mixture of both tutor led and practical sessions. Tutors expect full participation in practical lessons. The units you will study are likely to include: Core units: Unit 1: Anatomy and physiology Unit 2: Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being Unit 3: Professional Development in the Sports Industry Unit 4: Sports Leadership Unit 7: Practical Sports Performance Unit 8: Coaching for Sports Performance Specialist units: Unit 6: Sport Psychology Unit 17: Sport Injury Management Unit 30: Exercise, Health and Lifestyle Unit 31: Currents Issues in Sport *All units are subject to change and may be withdrawn.
Four GCSEs at Grade 4 or above or a related Level 2 Sport qualification including GCSE English and maths at grade 3.
Across the two-year programme there are four externally assessment. This includes an exam paper and three case study style supervised assessment The majority of units will be assessed internally in the form of assignments, subject to external standards verification. Assignments include written/typed essays, reports and presentation. There are always practical assessments with include delivering a coaching session, display skills, techniques and tactics, applying the rules of various sports, mock job interviews, etc
