Philosophy is thinking about thinking. We will ask some of the big philosophical questions such as: Has our universe always existed or did it begin?; Does God exist?; Do the needs of the many outweigh the few?; Is War ever morally justified?; Why should we be governed?; and Does time exist? The course is mainly taught via structured discussion in the classroom which helps to develop your skills in argument, analysis and evaluation of the philosophers and philosophies studied. You will be introduced to western thinkers such as Hume, Kant Aquinas and Descarte and, as the course progresses, you will become part of humanity’s continuing ‘great conversation’.
Five GCSEs at grade 9-4 including English Language and Maths as this course requires skills in logic and extended writing. This course is for school leavers. If you are over 18, please contact our Admissions Team to see if it is possible to study A Levels.
The course is assessed by written exams.
