Units covered may include the following: • Film and video editing techniques • Digital graphics for interactive media • Factual programme production techniques • Music video production • Advert production for TV • Social action and community media production • Presentation techniques • News production for radio • Photography and photographic practise • Interactive media authoring • Web animation for interactive media Students also complete a skills project to help build confidence and employability skills. It covers subjects such as equality and safeguarding, which are designed to broaden knowledge and help with employment potential. The full Extended Diploma in Interactive Media, carries the same UCAS tariff as three A Levels. It is achieved by completing a range of units through assignments, controlled assessments and exams.
Five GCSE passes at grade 4 (C) or above, preferably to include Maths and English or an equivalent vocational qualification at merit grade, and Functional Skills Maths and English, preferably at Level 2. Students who have not yet achieved grade 4 (C) in GCSE Maths and English, will study Functional Skills or GCSE Maths and English as part of their course. Students must demonstrate a keenness to learn new digital techniques and apply in a wide range of applications, e.g. websites, posters packaging, digital images.
Students are assessed through a combination of assignments, practical work, projects and controlled assessments set by the awarding body. Students will produce a portfolio of work which is assessed against the grading criteria for the units. Assignments set have an agreed hand-in date that will need to be met in order to meet the awarding body guidelines. In addition to portfolio work, some units may also include externally marked assessment material, sat under controlled conditions.
