Course summary

Biology involves the study of a wide range of exciting topics, ranging from molecular biology to the study of ecosystems and from micro-organisms to mammoths. Biology is a fascinating and popular choice of subject. Teaching is based around practical and tutorial sessions. Problem solving and communication skills are developed through class and independent study. Students are expected to analyse factual information and communicate their ideas in writing. The subject is taught on a topic basis and each topic is supported with a booklet of resources including a study guide that outline the content and practical work.

Entry requirements

6 in Biology, or 66 in Double Science and 6 in Maths.

How you'll be assessed

There will be three external written exam papers: Biological processes (01) will assess content from modules 1, 2, 3 and 5. Biological diversity (02) will assess content from modules 1, 2, 4 and 6. Unified biology (03) will assess content from all modules (1-6). Practical Endorsement Practical endorsement in biology is achieved by successfully completing a series of practical tasks over the two years of the course. Paper 3 will focus on the practical element of the course.
