Course summary

You will study pure mathematics, discrete mathematics, and mechanics. In pure mathematics you will further your knowledge of some of the topics covered in the mathematics course, you will also meet new topics such as complex numbers and matrices. Discrete mathematics involves the use of algorithms to solve problems in networks, the analysis of two-player games and group theory. In mechanics, you will study collisions, circular motion and center of mass. IS THIS COURSE FOR ME? Further mathematics is a challenging course, but the rewards can be great. This course allows you to explore more advanced and sophisticated topics, deepen your understanding of a broad range of concepts, and distinguish yourself as an able mathematician. Entry requirements

Our course centre requirements for all courses are grade 4 or above in 5 subjects including GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics with a good attitude to learning. Course centre requirements + minimum grade 7.

How you'll be assessed

The course will be assessed by three written exams at the end of year 13, each lasting 2 hours. Papers 1 and 2 will examine pure mathematics and paper 3 discrete mathematics and mechanics. All papers include a mix of question styles, from short, single-mark questions to multi-step problems.
