The new specifications give candidates a wide range of options within each module. This gives scope for strengths or new interests to be explored and an individualised path created for each candidate that will maximise potential. Good practical skills are an important component of the course, and students need to be well motivated independent learners because Years 12 and 13 are taught in the same option block. The modules focus on Performing, Composing and Listening, as at GCSE, but with much more flexibility of approach so that each student can work to his own strengths and thus gain good grades. Edexcel A level Music is 100% externally assessed, and each consists of one written paper and two non-examined assessments (NEA).
- A total of 50 points across a pupil's 'best 8' GCSEs with the grade number (9-1) contributing the relevant number of points. At least grade 7 at GCSE in the following subjects, in order to study that subject at A level: Maths, Physics, Chemistry, French and German.
