The course covers a wide and interesting range of topics such as an exploration of the wide varieties of English that are used by different genders, geographical locations and social groups as well as child language acquisition. Above all, it gives you the opportunity to understand how language is used to create meaning in the world. The analytical skills gained from this course are highly transferable and are appropriate for a wide range of careers.
● Grade 6 in English Language ● Ideally a Grade 5 in English Literature
80% of the A Level is assessed through 2 examinations at the end of Year 13. Paper 1: Language, the Individual and Society Paper 2: Language Diversity and Change 20% of the course consists of 2 Non-Examination Assessment pieces that will be completed in lessons and in students' personal study time over the two years; a Language Investigation and a piece of original writing.
