Course summary

Drama is a practical, creative and engaging course that will allow students to interrogate drama and the work of others, explore a range of play texts and styles, and create their drama performances. Students will complete four components during the course, all of which have a practical focus on the class work, and culminate in a mix of coursework and exam assessment. Practitioners in Practice allows you to explore the styles of Stanislavski and Kneehigh and the play text ‘The Seagull’ through practical workshops, leading to a devised performance, a research report and a portfolio. Exploring and Performing Texts results in a group performance of a contrasting play text. For Analysing Performance, learners will explore two play texts from the theme of ‘Conflict’ from the perspective of director, performer and designer, as well as learn to analyse and evaluate live theatre performance. Finally, in Deconstructing Texts for Performance students will develop a ‘director’s vision’ for their production of ‘Sweeney Todd’.
