Politics explores debates on political and social issues, current affairs and how decisions affecting society are made. You will gain an understanding of how democracy works in the UK and how it could be improved. You will also analyse the views of different political parties, individuals and groups. You will develop your analytical and debating skills, and will gain a deeper understanding of the way laws are made. The first year focuses on British politics, switching to US politics in your second year. This will help you make more sense of UK and international developments, whilst stimulating you to think critically and consider different points of view. You will also study different political ideologies, such as socialism, liberalism, conservatism and feminism, and the way they aim to organise society.
- Grade 9-5 in GCSE English. - The general entry requirements are five GCSEs graded 9-4, including English and maths (or equivalent) and two additional GCSE qualifications at grade 9-4 or BTEC equivalents. Grade 4 is equivalent to a grade C.
