Course summary

If you are interested in the way society functions and why certain social groups act the way they do, this is the subject for you. You will learn about how families function and how the structure of the family has changed in line with gender roles and economic pressures. Alongside that, we consider the role of education in modern society and who it benefits; is it the students, the economy or society as a whole? We also look at how sociological research is conducted as well as the role and influence of the media. Finally we look at the causes of crime and how as a society we keep social order, which complements the Psychology courses module on criminal behaviour
