Course summary

The completion of the History A Level at HC6 will enable you to learn how to scrutinise documents whilst examining their validity, subtext, agenda, and areas of distortion to generate informed opinions on them. The course focuses on a range of historical periods and the investigation into them all helps to foster your ability to identify and deal with fake news and problem solving in modern day life. The two-year course advances your critical reading and analytical writing skills whilst simultaneously aiding your ability to categorise findings and identify patterns. The teachers at HC6 will support you in establishing a wealth of baseline historical knowledge that will prepare you for the continuation of the subject at university.

Grade 5 in History at GCSE.

Individual exam (80%) / Coursework (20%) Unit 1 – The Tudors: England, 1485-1603. Unit 2 – Revolution and Dictatorship: Russia, 1917-1953. Unit 3 – NEA: Historical Investigation (American Civil Rights).
