You will study the following units: - Britain Transformed, 1918-97 including - - A changing political and economic environment, 1918-79 - Creating a welfare state, 1918-79 - Society in transition 1918-79 - Changing quality of life 1918-79 - What impact did Thatcher's governments (1979-90) have on Britain 1979-97 - American History 1955 - 1992 - conformity and challenge - - Affluence and conformity, 1955-63 - Protest and Reaction, 1963-72 - Social and political change, 1973-80 - Republican dominance and its opponents, 1981-92 - The witch craze in Britain, Europe and North America, c1500-c1750 - Aspects in breadth: Challenges to the witch craze, c1580-c1750 - Aspects in depth: Persecuting witches c1590-c1693 - The Causes of the Cold War You will work with primary sources in all units of this A Level to develop your skills as a conscientious Historian. There may be the opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament, Churchill War Rooms and the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic to develop your understanding of the past through real experiences
The standard requirement for A Levels at Stamford College is 5 GCSEs at Grade 5/C or above as a minimum for humanities subjects and 6/B in maths for all science subjects. Each A Level subject has its own additional entry requirements, please see below: Minimum grade 6/B in History GCSE
During the two years of study, you will be regularly assessed under test conditions to practice being able to understand and respond to the questions asked in the correct time allocation so that you are fully prepared for the final exams. There is an assessment calendar for A levels which includes timed assessment every 4 to 5 weeks. Feedback gained from these assessments will help you to develop your skills, target your revision and where necessary enable us to provide additional support.
