
Why study history? Have you ever wondered about the world we live in and why it’s turned out like this? Have you ever asked yourself: who is in control, and why them? Have you ever questioned: who are the communists and how have they shaped our world? If the answer to any of these questions is ‘yes’, then you should consider studying A level history! We study a wide variety of units at A Level. Topics build on the foundational skills gained at GCSE, whilst developing higher level analysis and writing skills useful in many vocations and undergraduate study. What will you study? Year 12 • Unit 1- Russia, 1917-1991: From Lenin to Yeltsin. • Unit 2- The German Democratic Republic, 1949-1990. Year 13 • Unit 3- The British Experience of Warfare, 1790-1918. • Unit 4- Causes of the Holocaust.
APS of 4.5+ including English and maths grade grade 4+. Skills and attributes: A good level of literacy and ability to write in detail; a passion for learning about the subject.
Year 12 Paper 1- Russia, 1917-1991: From Lenin to Yeltsin. This unit will be assessed in a 2 hour and 15 minute examination and is worth 30% of the A Level. Paper 2- The German Democratic Republic, 1949-1990. This unit will be assessed in a 1 hour and 30 minute examination and is worth 20% of the A Level. Year 13 Paper 3- The British Experience of Warfare, 1790-1918. This unit will be assessed in a 2 hour and 15 minute examination and is worth 30% of the A Level. Unit 4- Causes of the Holocaust. This unit is the coursework element which will be completed in Term 1 of Year 13 and is worth 20% of the A Level.
