Course summary

If you want to stand out from the crowd in university applications then doing an EPQ is a really good way of demonstrating that you have gone above and beyond your studies. You take it alongside your level 3 course to stretch and challenge yourself in an area or activity of interest to you. It gives you the chance to get skills such as research, independent and self-directed learning that you'll need in higher education. You'll need to be keeping up and doing well in your main study program, enjoy essay writing and be able to manage your time well. You'll learn about the skills that you'll need to undertake the EPQ such as project management, research and reflection. You'll develop an idea for a project, set out your aims and objectives and produce a proposal which you'll agree with your supervisor. You'll execute your project independently, during which time you'll get regular supervision to make sure that you're on track. You'll then produce a 5000-word report and deliver a presentation to demonstrate your findings as well as showing the ways you went about planning and managing your research.

How you'll be assessed

You'll submit a production log and assessment record detailing your project planning and move on to and your reflections on the process along with a 5000-word report and evidence of your presentation.
