Course summary

The Edexcel specification at A level is designed to excite students’ minds, challenge perceptions and stimulate their investigative and analytical skills. The topics covered reflect the world today, looking not only at the impact of humans on the physical environment and the challenges this has created, but also looking at global governance and the political, economic and social changes that are currently happening in the world. It will also enable students to study their own and others engagement with place, looking at the nature and importance of place in human life and experience. Geography is one of the most relevant courses you could choose to study with the growing importance of issues such as: - Climate change - Migration - Environmental degradation - Spatial epidemiology and inequalities Geography courses are popular, demonstrated by strong completion rates and positive student feedback. Geographers are also highly employable and collectively receive competitive graduate salaries. Above all, geographers have potential to be wellinformed global citizens, using their unique combinations of knowledge and skills to make a positive difference in the world. Geography is, in the broadest sense, an education for life and for living.

Entry requirements

Circumstances vary from student to student but you will need to have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSE passes, at grade 6, including English and Maths, however we would be willing to consider a grade 5 in some subjects, at the discretion of the Academy. Grade 6 or above at GCSE in Geography, English and Maths.

Paper 1 - Written examination: 2 hours and 15 minutes 30% of the qualification (105 marks) Paper 2 - Written examination: 2 hours and 15 minutes 30% of the qualification (105 marks) Paper 3 - Written examination: 2 hours and 15 minutes 20% of the qualification (70 marks) Nonexamination assessment: Independent Investigation Non-examined assessment 20% of the qualification 60 marks
