So your creativity isn’t just a way of satisfying your artistic soul…it can open the door to exciting career opportunities as well. Textiles can offer a wide range of practical, creative thinking and research skills to add to your other A Levels and will add a creative element to your timetable. During the courses, you will find out about a whole range of different media, techniques and processes. From observations, through experimentation to outcomes, you just can’t have enough ideas when it comes to expressing yourself. Textiles is big on hands-on experience too. It’s the work YOU produce that counts. Look at the work of past students that is on exhibition both at the Sixth Form College and the main site. The emphasis in this course is learning by doing, so you will be able to create imaginative personal work. Lessons are taught in our specialist art, textiles and photography studios. The studios are accessible for students to work on their portfolios independently. The fantastic studio with sewing machines, heat presses, batik station, haberdashery and displays of exemplary and past students' work, inspires students to push themselves in many creative ways. Year 12 Course Content: - Induction (Teacher led) - Focus on developing skills & knowledge - Outcome internally assessed - Start of Component 1 (student-led & worth 60%) - Practical unit including supporting essay. Year 13 Course Content: - Continuation of Component 1 Deadline January - Start of Component 2 (Exam & worth 40%) - Starts Feb and ends with a 15-hour exam completed in April/May.
A minimum of a grade 5 in a GCSE creative arts subject
1 portfolio and 1 externally set assignment completed and presented.
