Course summary

You should have an interest in working with children from birth to eight years old. this course offers a broad basis of study of the early years sector, including: how children develop, how children learn and communicate, the benefits of play for children, and how to keep children safe. A variety of teaching methods will be used to enable you to complete each unit studied. For example: Work experience, working independently and as part of a team, completing short tasks and longer projects, trips to early years settings, researching relevant topics using the internet and textbooks, and role plays.

Entry requirements

4 in English if the subject has not been taken before. Level 2 Pass in a vocational course in the subject if taken

How you'll be assessed

You will be assessed through a combination of coursework and examinations. Examined units are assessed externally and coursework units are internally assessed. Evidence gathered for coursework will include written tasks, observations, and practical tasks. 67% of the course is assessed through examined units and 33% coursework. You will also complete 50 hours' work experience in the early years sector over the two year course.
