This is a linear course with three examined components: Drama and theatre (analysis and theory), Creating original drama (practical/written) and Making theatre (practical). Drama and Theatre: the students will explore and analyse two texts selected to introduce them to contrasting theatre styles: Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen: Hedda Gabler is a realist play that explores the role of women in the nineteenth century. Metamorphosis by Steven Berkoff Steven Berkoff’s adaptation of Kafka’s classic fable. Creating Original Drama: In this component students will create their own piece in the style of a chosen playwright, director or theatre. Making Theatre: Choose and interpret three extracts from their favourite text(s) for this component and perform their strongest piece to a live audience. The final piece will be formally examined by an AQA examiner. Students may specialise in performing, lighting, sound, set, costume, puppets and/or directing.
