Course summary

You will develop a broad overview of how to generate, develop and communicate ideas in 2 and 3 dimensions. During the course you will create sketchbook/journals which will include your research, planning, evaluation and development of ideas. Students also produce 3D models and a finished portfolio of work. Students participate in gallery visits, exhibitions and workshops delivered by visiting architects. Students are required to work in one or more area(s) of three-dimensional design, such as those listed below. They may explore overlapping areas and combinations of areas: • ceramics • sculpture • exhibition design • design for theatre, television and film • interior design • product design • environmental and architectural design • jewelery/body ornament • 3D digital design

Entry requirements

Five GCSE grades at 4 and above. A minimum of five GCSEs A* - C including art / product design or a BTEC Introductory qualification in Art, Design and Media.

Component 1: Personal Investigation (60% of Year 2 marks) No time limit 96 marks—Set and marked by the centre. Component 2: Externally Set Assignment (40% of Year 2 marks) Preparatory period + 15 hours supervised time 96 marks—Set by AQA
