The A Level in Business looks at how firms are organized and how they operate in the marketplace. Over the two years, you will study marketing a business, how to motivate people within a business, and how to control and organize finances within a business. You will learn practical skills that are needed to set up a business as well as learn to apply textbook theory to solve case study problems. Topics Covered: 1. What is business? 2. Managers, leadership, and decision making 3. Decision-making to improve marketing performance 4. Decision-making to improve operational performance 5. Decision-making to improve financial performance 6. Decision-making to improve human resource performance 7. Analysing the strategic position of a business 8. Choosing strategic direction 9. Strategic methods: how to pursue strategies 10. Managing strategic change There is an ever-expanding range of business courses available at all universities. Typical areas include Accounting, Advertising, Law, Marketing, Civil Service, self-employment, ICT, Human Resource Management, and of course, Teaching! Equally, the subject is well-recognized by employers and will be of benefit to those students interested in going straight on to employment after the sixth form. Aspects of the subject such as Human Resources, Marketing, and Finance can be applied across the board in any employment situation.
Our general Sixth Form entry requirement is 5 GCSEs at grades 4 - 9. Recommended at least a grade 5 in English and Maths at GCSE.
Paper 1: Business 1 Section A has 15 Multiple-choice questions worth a total of 15 marks. Section B has short answer questions worth a total of 35 marks. Sections C and D have two essay questions worth 25 marks each. 3 x 2-hour written exams, each 100 marks Each paper is 33.3% of A-level Paper 2: Business 2 Three data response compulsory questions worth approximately 33 marks each and made up of three or four-part questions. 3 x 2-hour written exams, each 100 marks Each paper is 33.3% of A-level Paper 3: Business 3 One compulsory case study followed by approximately six questions. 3 x 2-hour written exams, each 100 marks Each paper is 33.3% of A-level All of the topics covered will be assessed in all the papers
