Course summary

Year 1 involves studying a combination of pure and applied maths. The pure topics covered involve lots of algebraic skills, applying them to much trickier concepts of proof, functions, coordinate geometry, sequences and vectors. New topics are also introduced including exponentials, logarithms, series, differentiation and integration. The applied topics are a mixture of statistics and mechanics. The statistics studied involves statistical sampling, presentation and interpretation; statistical distributions and hypothesis testing with further probability methods introduced. Within mechanics, which is essentially the maths behind movement, you will study quantities and units in mechanics; kinematics, forces and Newton’s laws. Year 2 continues to evolve mathematical ideas across all the topics previously taught.
