BTEC Applied Science is an exciting practical based subject suitable for students who have an interest in the applications of Science or are taking A Levels that use scientific principles. Students will develop a broad range of scientific skills with the course introducing them to practical scientific procedures and investigation skills. This course is suited to students who are well organised, self-motivated and enjoy practical work.
For all advanced level (Level 3) courses such as GCE A levels and BTEC Level 3, the entry requirement will be 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above (including Maths and English). For most subjects a GCSE grade 9—6 is required in the chosen or related subject or a merit at a BTEC Level 2. 5 GCSE grades 9 - 4 including English and Maths. Students will need to have achieved at least a GCSE grade 5 in Biology or grade 55 in Combined Science.
This qualification is assessed by assignments, assessed practicals and three external exams. Each unit studied consists of between 60 and 120 hours of guided learning and students will typically undertake 3 - 4 assignments per unit. Students will complete 3 - 4 assignments over each year.
