This course is for school leaver (Age 16) who wish to study this subject at sixth form. This course will prepare students for their next steps weather that be university or employment based learning. The aim of A Level Philosophy and Ethics at HACH is to facilitate students in developing the ability to engage articulately in the dialogue between philosophy, ethics and religion. You will build enquiry and critical analysis skills in which you can assess the meaning and significance of philosophical debate and the efficacy of ethical theory. We aim to help you become academic scholars that can apply your knowledge synoptically and to the wider world whist maintaining the integrity of your own personal beliefs and that of others. You will be able explore and debate the morality of Just War in the context of the Russia/Ukraine conflict and the right to life and death within the context of the new US abortion laws. We will explore the development of ethical theory from the Ancient Greeks to the modern day and discuss philosophical concepts such as the existence and nature of God and the problem of evil and suffering.
You must have an Attainment 8 score of 50 & at least a 4 in Mathematics and a 6 in English Language or Literature. RE grade 6 at GCSE preferred.
