Course summary

This course will give you a variety of opportunities to develop your dramatic and theatrical skills in both devised and scripted work whilst developing your understanding and appreciation of the significance of social, cultural and historical influences on the development of drama and theatre. You will practically explore two contrasting plays analysing how different staging methods and performance techniques can be used to present texts in performance. The knowledge and understanding gained through your analysis will be applied to two performances for an audience; the first being either a monologue or a duologue and the second being a group performance. You will also work as part of a group to devise your original piece of performance for a specific target audience. Visits to professional theatre performances will also be used to develop your understanding of how production ideas and dramatic elements are used by directors, performers and designers to communicate meaning to an audience.
