Media Studies focuses on the production and consumption of a diverse range of texts and interactive media. It develops the learner’s appreciation of film, television, music, advertising, the Internet and print media by considering both how and why each medium is made. The A Level Media Studies from Eduqas was revamped in 2017 and features several contemporary topics that learners should enjoy. During the course, you will study all of the following media forms; music videos, video games, advertising, newspapers, magazines, film and television. You will acquire knowledge and understanding of media language, representation, industry and audiences as well as be able to create and manipulate media forms to suit different briefs.
At least a grade 6 in English.
The course features two examinations, each worth 35% of the final A Level. Component 1: Media Products, Industries and Audiences is 2.25 hours in length, whereas Component 2: Media Forms and Products in Depth is 2.5 hours in length. Both examination components assess media language, representation, media industries, audiences and media contexts. The final 30% of the qualification is a non-examined assessment: Cross Media Production, where you will respond to a brief in two different media forms.
