Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) is a new qualification designed for students who have achieved a grade C or above at GCSE. It helps to develop students’ mathematical skills and thinking and supports courses such as A-level Psychology, Sciences and Geography as well as technical and vocational qualifications. Maths in general is known as a facilitating subject for Higher Education and Core Maths has been given recognition by universities as providing greater support to student progression. Core Maths includes analysis of data, maths for personal finance, estimation, spreadsheets, the normal distribution, probability, correlation and regression.
Students must have attained a minimum of five GCSE grades 9-5 including English Language or Mathematics at grade 5. Grade 5 in Mathematics.
