A Level of Further Mathematics offers students an opportunity to deepen their mathematical knowledge. Further Mathematics will explore different topics, which are introduced in A-level Mathematics. The common question we will ask is “what if” when discussing areas of mathematics. Paper 1: Core Pure Mathematics 1 Paper 2: Core Pure Mathematics 2 Proof, complex numbers, matrices, further algebra and functions, further calculus, further vectors, polar coordinates, hyperbolic functions, and differential equations. The following two examinations are subject to change depending on the strengths of the group: Paper 3: Further Statistics 1 Discrete probability distributions, Poisson, and binomial distributions, geometric and negative binomial distributions, hypothesis testing, central limit theorem, chi-squared tests, probability generating functions, quality of tests. Paper 4: Decision Mathematics Algorithms, critical path analysis, networks, linear programming.
Students wanting to study at EHC are required to achieve 5 or more standard GCSE passes or higher (grade 4 or higher) including GCSE Maths and either English Language or English Literature at a grade 4 or above. Achieve grade 7 or higher in GCSE Maths.
