Course summary

A Level History at St John's follows the AQA syllabus. The course is taught by an interesting balance of methods ranging through video, debates and supported by self-study. Motivation and self-discipline are vital for personal research using original sources. The content is focused on the turbulent and controversial period of the sixteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries in Britain and around the globe and examines political events and social trends that led to war, revolution and radical change.

Entry requirements

Thorough research skills and a coherent writing style are essential. You must have enthusiasm and selfdiscipline to question and work for yourself. We consider all applicants seriously but would expect you to have achieved level 5 or above in GCSE History and English Language last year. If this is not the case, we would look at your case with particular reference to your grades in related subject areas.
