Course summary

In A-level Economics, you will study the AQA specification. This is tested by three exams at the end of Year 13. These include: 1. Markets and market failure. 2. National and international economy. 3. Economic principles and issues. Students with an interest in current affairs and a curiosity to look behind the headlines will find this a rewarding course. A-level Economics analyses many of the big issues of the day that are in the news and attempts to consider them systematically and logically using economic theory to provide a framework for explaining these problems. Thus, it is a very news-orientated course, for example explaining issues such as global warming within the context of market failure theory and fully joining the debate about the role of government within the economy. You will develop the knowledge and skills needed to understand and analyse data, think critically about issues and make informed decisions. You will also build upon your quantitative skills and appreciate that when evaluating arguments, both qualitative and quantitative evidence are important.
