Course summary

As at GCSE, you will be assessed on your skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the foreign language. You will develop your ability to use the language independently and express your own ideas and opinions on the following: 1. Social issues and trends 2. Political and artistic culture 3. Grammar 4. Works: Literary texts and films Students intending to take an A-level course in Modern Languages should note that there will be a considerable amount of listening, reading and topic research to be done outside class. Much of this research is best done via the internet. If possible, they should visit the country whose language they are learning during the course. It is also a good idea to subscribe to a foreign language blog, newspaper or magazine - the school has details of suitable ones. Again, many European newspapers are available online.

Entry requirements

• A minimum of a Grade 6 in GCSE French is required to study this subject at A-level. • A minimum of four grades at 6 or above at GCSE • A grade 5 or higher in GCSE English • A grade 5 or higher in GCSE Mathematics

How you'll be assessed

Paper 1 Written exam 2hrs 30min 40% of final mark. Paper 2 Written exam 2hrs 30% of final mark. Paper 3 Oral Exam 21-23min (inc. 5min prep time) 30% of final mark.
