Course summary

Students will gain a detailed insight into the rapidly changing world of British and American Politics today, including the roles played by key individuals and institutions. Students will also learn about political ideology. Ideologies studied include Conservatism, Liberalism, Socialism and Nationalism / Feminism. A good A-level grade in this subject is highly valued by all universities and can lead to a wide range of courses and careers, particularly in the law, local government, the civil service and education. The communication and analytical skills acquired are also much valued in advertising, journalism, and business management.

Entry requirements

• Entry into the Sixth Form and an interest in current affairs • A minimum of four grades at 6 or above at GCSE • A grade 5 or higher in GCSE English • A grade 5 or higher in GCSE Mathematics • A minimum of a grade 6 at GCSE in the subject you wish to study (if the subject is offered at GCSE)
