Course summary

For voracious readers, word lovers, poets and theatre buffs English Literature is the perfect choice. Studying literature feeds the imagination. It allows you to travel back in time, share the experiences of others, take on new perspectives, explore ideas, beliefs and values, challenge or discover your own and learn the literary skills to express yourself in original and creative ways through dialogue, argument, prose and poetry. The analytical, interpretative and discursive skills you develop by studying literature will also prove excellent preparation for university. A Level of English Literature is a highly regarded qualification by universities. St Peter’s is an exciting and energising place to study English Literature. Students are lively, talented and enthusiastic and all teachers in the Literature team have a genuine passion for their subject. Many of the teachers have written works for publication and encourage their students to engage in the world of English Literature outside of school. We offer many enrichment opportunities including theatre visits, trips to London and participation in A Level conferences at other academic establishments.

Entry requirements

GCSE English combined total of at least 11, with a minimum of Grade 6 in English Literature.
