A Level Computer Science is a technical subject which has a large practical element. The course examines the techniques used to design and write programs and makes students aware of the main principles of systems analysis. The emphasis is on Computational Thinking; students learn to become effective designers and implementers of computing solutions through algorithms, learning to program in many languages including Java, C#, PHP and SQL.
At least 6 GCSEs at grades 9-4 , including GCSE English Language, and meeting the entry criteria of individual subjects (Level 2 vocational qualifications at Merit or Distinction will be treated as equivalent to one GCSE) Grade 5 in Mathematics, grade 6 in Computer Science if studied at GCSE.
80% examination and 20% coursework.
