It will give entrants to this sector the underpinning knowledge of law, and the skills needed to meet industry requirements and allow students to develop the transferable and higher-order skills so highly regarded by HE and employers. As an internationally recognised qualification, a successful student will be able to explore a variety of potential careers/degrees such as legal secretary, paralegal, court administrative officer or police officer.
Grade 4 in English Language Students studying 3 of these subjects can resit GCSE Mathematics if a Grade 4 is not achieved
42% coursework/ 58% external examination Students need to pass both the exam-based units (Units 1 & 3) and an assignment-based unit (Unit 2) to at least achieve a Pass for the course. Unit 1: Dispute Solving in Civil Law - This is an examination unit which involves tasks set and marked by the exam board covering topics such as civil disputes, negligence and the enforcement of the law. Unit 2: Investigating Aspects of Criminal Law and the Legal System - This unit is internally assessed through coursework assignments exploring how statutory rules and legislation are made the roles of the legal personnel involved in a trial, and the elements of a crime: Actus Reus, Causation, Mens Rea and non-fatal offences against the person. Unit 3: Applying the Law - This is an examination unit which involves tasks set and marked by the exam board covering topics such as homicide, voluntary manslaughter, theft and criminal damage, as well as an overview of police powers. Unit 7: Aspects of Tort - This unit is internally assessed through coursework assignments examining the principles of occupiers’ law, negligent misstatements and liability.
