According to Einstein, “Creativity is intelligence having fun!” The A-level Art course is designed to merge and develop skill, creativity, and analytical aptitude as we respond to artists, processes and themes. The course is taught by two specialist Art teachers who provide a rich variety of art and design experiences before students specialise in their personally devised investigation. Learning will happen through workshops, tutorials, one-to-one discussions, group critiques, and independent work. A LEVEL - Completed over two years. Component 1 - Personal Investigation • Transition Unit • Drawing Unit • Personal Investigation Component 2 - Externally Set Assignment • Within the second year of the course, students are given a preparatory period to respond to one of eight questions that is set by the Examination Board. Students will receive examination papers in February. Qualities Required: • Students should have a good grade in GCSE Art. Students who have not completed a GCSE in Art will be required to submit a portfolio of work for consideration. • Students should be creative and enjoy working with a variety of materials and techniques. • Students should have an understanding of how to manipulate the basic elements in art – colour tone, form, line, etc., and the place of art, craft, and design in the world – its history and purpose. • Students should have a genuine interest in creating and understanding art and have the determination to develop that interest.
Five GCSES at grades 9-5, which must include grade 9-5 in GCSE English Language and Mathematics. GCSE graded 9-6 in Art (Students who have not studied Art at GCSE will be required to submit a portfolio of work for consideration).
