Why study this course? This course is a highly valued and recognized academic course. Throughout this course, you will develop a greater understanding of the English Language and the factors that have shaped and are shaping it. You will have the chance to investigate an area of the language of your choice and produce your own piece of original writing. What interests should you have? An interest in what language is about; how it is used, and how different factors can affect the way we speak and the words we use; past, present, and future. The state of the English Language; how we - as children - learn to speak, read and write. What will the course cover? • Meanings and representations in texts • Child Language • Acquisition • Language and sexuality, gender, ethnicity, age, occupation, power, technology, change • World English • Article writing • A personal language investigation (NEA) • Original, creative writing (NEA)

Entry requirements

The minimum course entry requirement to follow a Level 3 programme is five 9-4 GCSEs. Grade 5 in English Language.

How you'll be assessed

Exam one 40%. Exam two 40%. Non-exam assessment 20%.
