Course summary

You will build upon the topics that you studied at GCSE but the onus is now upon you to argue and debate your own point of view. You will read materials from the Spanish press, watch Spanish TV and DVDs, listen to Spanish podcasts, and use the internet. Grammar is taught intensively during Term 1 to strengthen your knowledge of the language. It is then revisited throughout the 2-year course.

Entry requirements

6 or above at GCSE Spanish and 5 or above in English Language

How you'll be assessed

This is a two-year A Level course. At the end of Year 13, there are three exams. Unit 1 (30%) Oral exam of between 21 and 23 minutes with an external examiner, in which you will discuss your chosen research project and discuss one of the themes studied. Unit 2: (50%) Listening, Reading and Translation, a two-and-a-half-hour paper which is worth 50% Unit 3: (20%) Critical and Analytical response in Writing, a two-hour paper consisting of two essays, one on a film and one on a book studied during the course.
