This course aims to provide you with opportunities to develop artistic skills which will lead to a range of creative careers. This highly creative and successful course aims to give you the confidence and skills to explore a diverse range of themes and to develop a questioning and analytical attitude. There is a strong emphasis on the teaching of creative, contemporary drawing skills and developing underpinning research skills. You are encouraged to explore and experiment through a wide range of Art and Design media, including drawing, painting, print, textiles, and Photoshop. Observational drawing and recording skills are very important. You will study a range of contemporary artists to help inform your ideas. Your practical design work will be recorded in a sketch book and development will lead to a personally developed final outcomes in your chosen area this could be painting, drawing, textiles, illustration, mixed media or fashion or Surface Pattern.
You will usually need to have achieved 5 or more GCSE grades 9 – 4 including English Language and Maths. A grade A*-C / 9 -4 in GCSE English Language. There are 2 components, a personal investigation and an externally set exam project. You will produce a portfolio of practical research work and outcomes and an illustrated reflective essay.
