Why study this course? This course is a highly valued academic course; it combines practical work, allowing you to be creative and produce a high-quality media product in tandem with academic and theoretical study. You will learn about the media world and how messages are encoded for audiences. What interests should you have? An interest in exploring the media world around you; an interest in exploring how and why media producers choose to create certain representations, why they choose to use media language in varying ways to reflect their organisation. An interest in how gender, sexuality, and ethnicity are represented through the media; exploring a range of theorists and studies to apply to different media texts. What will the course cover? A diverse range of media texts in the following platforms: • Gaming • Newspapers • TV • Film • Print advertisements • Music videos • Social media Products such as: • Lil Nas X - Old Town Road • Blinded by the Lights • GQ Magazine • Deutschland 83 One original media production created from your response to a range of annual briefs.

Entry requirements

The minimum course entry requirement to follow a Level 3 programme is five 9-4 GCSEs. Grade 5 in Media Grade 5 in one of Language or Literature.

How you'll be assessed

Media exam one: 35%. Media exam two: 35%. Non-exam assessment: 30%.
